Ingredients

800g chicken drumstick
1 pc ginger
50 ml fish sauce
30 ml caramel sauce Nước màu
20g seasoning powder
40g sugar
5g pepper
1/3 tsp garlic minced
1/2 tsp shallot minced
2 tbsp cooking oil
1 pc horn chili

Directions

There’s nothing better than gathering for a family meal in winter with a bowl of hot, tasty gà kho gừng  (chicken cooked with ginger) and freshly steamed white rice. Enjoy the soft chicken drumstick meat with aromatic ginger flavors. It’s a simple dish that can be prepared for daily meals in a Vietnamese home. Let’s begin!

Preparation

Wash, peel and slice ginger. Chop chicken drumsticks into appropriately sized pieces and wash them clean. Let dry.

Marinate chicken with 1/2 of the ginger, 50 ml fish sauce, 30ml caramel sauce, 20g seasoning powder, 40g sugar, and 5g pepper.

Stir Frying

Add cooking oil into a pot and turn on the stove at high temperature. When the oil is sizzling, add minced garlic and shallots together with the remaining ginger in to stir fry for the aroma. After that, continue to add chicken in and stir fry roughly.

Stewing

When the chicken meat has become firm, pour drinking water in enough to cover the meat's surface, reduce the heat to medium level, stew for 30 minutes or until the water becomes sticky. Turn off the heat.

Serve

Place the chicken into a bowl or plate and serve with rice. Additionally, sprinkle some diced horn chili on top to make the dish more aromatic.
